  2006 Exhibition (The 41st Hong Kong Brands and Products Expo)
 
Innovation for Future

Organized by the Association, the 41st Hong Kong Brands and Products Expo (HKBPE) was held between 9 December 2006 and 1 January 2007 at Victoria Park, showcasing a wide spectrum of traditional and recently emerged brands in 700 booths. The 41st HKBPE aimed at increasing the standards and awareness of the local industrial products, and further promoting Hong Kong’s industrial development. The 24-day Expo this year achieved huge success with an attendance of 1.72 million visitors.

The Association was also grateful to Goodway Electrical Enterprise Ltd, DR Esthetic Product Research & Production Ctr., Safewell Equipment Ltd and Million Power Enterprise Ltd for being the Diamond, Gold, Silver and Copper sponsors of the Expo respectively.

A Star-studded Opening Ceremony

More than 200 distinguished guests including principal government officials, consular corps and leaders from the business sector attended the ceremony.

Promoting Hong Kong Brand Development
The theme for the 41st HKBPE was “Innovation Technology” with a slogan “Innovation for Future”. There were 700 booths in the Expo, which were located in “Hong Kong Brands Square”, “Food & Beverage Zone”, “Grocery & Noodles Zone”, “Beauty & Fashion Zone”, “Chinese Medicine & Healthcare Zone”, “Lifestyle & Household Zone” and “Food Plaza”.
“Hong Kong Brands Square” was one of the focal points of the HKBPE. As suggested by its name, the pavilion showcased famous local brands in 200 booths, which included Goodway, 3D-GOLD, Hop Hing, Lee Kum Kee, Lam Soon, Luk Fook, German Pool, Crocodile, Appolo, Sun Shun Fuk, Okashi Land, Kampery, Garden, Winner, Amoy, Eu Yan Sang and Tung Chun etc.

Highlighting the fusion of Eastern and Western cuisines, “Food Plaza” was established again with overwhelming response received. The Plaza showcased a wide variety of delicacies offered by 25 exhibitors, including Farm House, Super Star, Tai Hing Roast, Toa Payoh, Satay King and King Bakery etc.

Visitors could buy a kaleidoscope of quality products at bargain prices in the venue, including famous local and overseas brands like EDO, Pearl River Bridge, Long Far, Sinomax, Royal Medic and WinUBoost etc.

Goodway Wins Booth Design Competition
Booth Design Competition was one of the traditional activities of the Expo, which aimed to commend the exhibitors for outstanding booth design. Exhibitors this
year showed impressive enthusiasm and effort in their booth decoration. The champion eventually went to Goodway Electrical Enterprise Ltd. The first runner-up and the second runner-up were 3D-GOLD Int'l. Co Ltd and German Pool (HK) Ltd respectively.

Innovation Gallery
Innovation and technology has become a new direction for Hong Kong’s industrial development. To coincide with the theme “Innovation for Future”, Innovation Gallery was set up to showcase local industrial inventions, technological achievements and innovative designs and to pay tribute to the remarkable success of Hong Kong industries in innovation technology. The Gallery was divided into “Innovative Living Zone”, “Innovative Design Zone”, “Innovative Invention Zone” and “Innovative Technology Zone”. Visitors could join the weekend workshops to experience the marvels of innovation technology.

HKBPE: Best Wishes to Beijing Olympics
As Olympics Games would be held in Beijing in 2008, Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad (BOCOG) and The Office of Beijing Municipal Committee for Jointly Constructing Beijing Olympic Stadiums & Gymnasiums by Hong Kong Macao and Taiwan Compatriots and Overseas Chinese (CJC) jointly set up a huge booth at the expo venue to showcase information about Beijing Olympics. To encourage Hong Kong citizens to fully support the organization of Beijing Olympics 2008 and the construction of the National Aquatics Center, a thematic area “HKBPE: Best Wishes to Beijing Olympics” was specially set up at the centre of the HKBPE venue where visitors could make wishes for Beijing Olympics and National Aquatics Center. Pop stars, Twins, were invited to attend the opening ceremony with around 20 distinguished guests. A total of 150,000 “wish balls” were collected during the 24 day of the Expo.

Spotlight Programmes
During the 24-day Expo, the visitors not only could enjoy shopping of famous brands and products, but also a wide variety of entertainment programmes. To promote the
Expo, 5 artistes including Ms Candy Chea, Mr Fung Chi Fung, Ms Maggie Yeong, Mr Zac Koo and Ms Wada Hiromi were appointed as the HKBPE Ambassadors. Besides, co-organized with Radio Television Hong Kong and Hong Kong Commercial Radio, 5 spotlight programmes were staged at the exhibition venue. During the Expo, New Year parade, concerts, sports games, magic and acrobatic shows, musical and dancing performances were also organized to match the 12 thematic days.

“King Eater Contest”
The “King Eater Contest” was firstly introduced to the Expo. Besides eating, contestants were required to possess knowledge about HKBPE as well as health. After the first round of competition, 9 finalists were selected to enter the final contest co-organized by the CMA with Hong Kong Commercial Radio, and sponsored by Tai Hing Roast Restaurant. Famous artistes Mr Kenny Bee, Ms Vincy, Mr Don Li, Ms Mandy Chiang, Ms Nancy Wu and Ms Shermon Tang performed and received overwhelming responses from the visitors at the final contest.

Other sponsors of the contest were AAA Noodle Product Mfy. (HK) Ltd, New Age Health Food Co Ltd and Appolo Ice-cream Co Ltd.

Polling and Lucky Draws
There were several polling activities in the Expo, including polling for Miss Exhibition Pageant, Hong Kong Top Brand Awards and Hong Kong Service Top Brand Awards, and Booth Design Competition. Apart from these, visitors could participate in the lucky draws to win fabulous prizes sponsored by Farm House Restaurant, Goodway Electrical Enterprise Ltd, Safewell Equipment Ltd, DR Esthetic Product Research & Production Ctr., 3D-GOLD Int’l. Co Ltd, Han Sheng Tang Herbal Technologies Co Ltd, Cross Int’l. Ltd, Angel Cosmetics Int’l. Slogan Competition
To enhance public understanding and awareness of the Expo and Hong Kong's industry, the Association organized the Slogan Competition with Mingpao as co-organizer. Students of all secondary schools and tertiary institutes in Hong Kong were invited to enter the Competition. The response to the Competition was overwhelming with over 3,400 entries received. Mr Cheung Ting Him from Yan Ping Industrial & Commercial Association Lee Lim Ming College won the championship. His slogan was used as the official slogan of the HKBPE. The first runner-up and the second runner-up were Ms Ma Hiu Yu from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University and Ms Yip Miu Hang from The University of Hong Kong respectively.

The Competition offered 3 top prizes and 3 merit-prizes. The champion, the first runner-up and the second runner-up were each awarded a trophy, a cash prize of HK$3,000, HK$2,000 and HK$1,000 respectively. Each merit-prize winner was awarded a certificate and a cash prize of HK$500. The judging panel was formed by CMA Vice-President Mr Charles Lo, Community & Marketing Director of Mingpao Newspapers Limited Mr Ho Lai Kit; news commentator Mr Robert Chow; writer Ms Yu Fei and Research Assistant Professor of Centre of Asian Studies in The University of Hong Kong Dr Lee Pui Tak.

Children’s Drawing Competition
To enhance children’s understanding of the HKBPE, the Children’s Drawing Competition was organized again with Sing Tao Daily as co-organizer. Children under the age of 12 were eligible to join the competition with the theme “Innovative HKBPE”. The competition received enthusiastic response from the public with more than 1,000 high standard entries. The competition was divided into two sections: Junior Section (age 7 or below) and Senior Section (age 8 to 12). The champion, the first runner-up and the second runner-up of the Senior Section were Ms Sarah Tam, Mr Tom Ka Long and Ms Chan Lai See respectively; while Mr Cheung Chun Wah, Mr Wong Yat Nam and Mr Leung Ka Chun were the champion, the first runner-up and the second runner-up of the Junior Section respectively.

The judging panel for the competition comprised CMA General Committee Member Mr Lee Hung Tong; Art and Production Director of Sing Tao News Corporation Limited Mr Danny Wong; Director of Creative Services of Ogilvy & Mather Advertising Ms Candy Tam; Art Director of Emphasis Custom Media Ms Teresita Khaw; and Senior Marketing and Business Development Manager of Sun Ya Publications (HK) Ltd Ms Kat Cheung. Each section offered 3 top prizes and 5 consolation prizes. The champion and the runners-up of both categories were each awarded a trophy, a cash prize of HK$1,000, HK$500 and HK$300, a gift coupon and a book coupon of HK$500, HK$400 and HK$300 and a gift pack respectively. Consolation prizes winners were each awarded a certificate, a book coupon of HK$200 and a gift pack. Gifts were sponsored by Luk Ka Int’l. Ltd, Sino United Publishing (Holdings) Ltd, Sun Ya Publications (HK) Limited and Artin Int’l. (Holdings) Ltd.

Photo Contest
To enhance public understanding of the Expo, strengthen people’s sense of belonging and develop their positive outlook on life, the Association organized the Photo Contest in the 41st HKBPE with the theme “Innovation for Better Tomorrow in HKBPE”. The contest was co-organized by Ta Kung Pao, Photo Magazine, the Photographic Society of Hong Kong and the Chinese Photographic Society of Hong Kong and was sponsored by the Better Hong Kong Foundation. The response to the Contest was overwhelming with over 450 entries. The champion went to Mr Man Yiu Lun, the first runner-up and the second runner-up were Mr Yeung Hong Ming and Ms Angie Chui respectively.

The Contest offered 3 top prizes and 5 merit-prizes. The champion, the first runner-up and the second runner-up were each awarded a trophy, a cash prize of HK$5,000, HK$4,000 and HK$3,000 respectively. Each merit-prize winner was awarded a certificate and a cash prize of HK$1,000. The judging panel was formed by CMA General Committee Member Mr Fung Yuen Hon; Photography Consultant of Ta Kung Pao Mr Lau Pui Hang; Deputy Chief Editor of Photo Magazine Mr Raymond Wu; Chairman of The Photographic Society of Hong Kong Dr Leo Wong; Chairman of The Chinese Photographic Association of Hong Kong Ltd Mr Ng Lin Shing; Chief Executive of the Better Hong Kong Foundation Ms Karen Tang; and renowned photographer Dr Lawrence Chan.

Miss Exhibition Pageant
Miss Exhibition Pageant aimed at selecting goodwill ambassadors to promote Hong Kong’s industry by participating in CMA’s publicity events. 10 contestants were introduced to the media at the media conference held on 28 November 2006. They were Ms Noel Wong of Crocodile Garments Ltd, Ms Zoe Choi of Winsor (HK) Ltd, Ms Helen Kung of Royal Medic (Holdings) Ltd, Ms Ada Lau of DR Esthetic Product Research & Production Ctr., Ms Mango Lam of New Cynosure Co Ltd, Ms Neyuna Lam of Goodway Electrical Enterprise Ltd, Ms Crystal Kam of Catalo Natural Health Foods, Ms Emily Liu of Nano World (HK) Ltd, Ms Cherry Lo of Safewell Equipment Ltd, and Ms Annie Gesela Ng of Omiz Industrial (HK) Ltd. The media selected Ms Neyuna Lam as “The Media’s Most Favoured Miss Exhibition Award”, who she was crowned by CMA Vice-President cum Vice-Chairman of CMA Exhibition Services Ltd Mr F C Lo at the media conference.

10 contestants competed for several awards during the 24-days Expo. The champion went to Ms Neyuna Lam, who also received “The Camera Face Award”, “The Best Eloquence Award” and “The Most Glamorous Award”. She was crowned by CMA President Mr Peter Hung and Champion of the 40th Miss Exhibition Pageant Ms Cherry Ho. The first runner-up was Ms Mango Lam, who was crowned by Chairman of CMA Exhibition Services Ltd Mr Lui Ming Wah. The second runner-up was Ms Cherry Lo, who was crowned by CMA Vice-President cum Vice-Chairman of CMA Exhibition Services Ltd Dr Danny Ngai. Besides, Ms Noel Wong won “The Most Popular Miss Exhibition On-line Award”, and was crowned by CMA Vice-President cum Vice-Chairman of CMA Exhibition Services Ltd Mr F C Lo. Ms Emily Liu won “The Most Talented Award”. The champion, the first runner-up and the second runner-up were awarded cash prizes of HK$30,000, HK$20,000 and HK$10,000 respectively. All the winners were awarded fabulous prizes by the sponsors.

The competition received huge support from the sponsors. hairConcept@WI and CCIF CPA Ltd were appointed as the official hair design consultant and the official honourable auditor respectively. The Group Holdings Ltd was the official poise and catwalk consultant. Yue Hwa Chinese Products Emporium Ltd provided cheong-sams; Italia Donna Limited provided ladies clothes; and Circle Shoes Co Ltd provided lady shoes. To enhance the contestants’ performance, the CMA invited local celebrities and consultancy firm including Mr Wong Kwai Lam, Ms Lily Li, Ms Kate Chan, Mr Jonathan Kwong, and Beauty Tech Institute Ltd as official trainers and image consultant to give lectures and professional advice on eloquence, poise and catwalk, image design, hair styling and make-up. Dr Lawrence Chan was appointed as the photography consultant.
