Quality Brands, Quality Life
Organized by the CMA, the 44th Hong Kong Brands and
Products Expo (HKBPE) was held between 12 December 2009
and 4 January 2010 at Victoria Park, showcasing a wide
spectrum of traditional and newly emerged brands in 780
booths. The 44th HKBPE aimed at increasing the standards
and awareness of the local industrial products, and
further promoting Hong Kong's industrial and commercial
development. The 24-day Expo achieved
a huge success and scaled a new height with a record
attendance of 2.29 million visitors.
The Expo received enthusiastic support from the Commerce
and Economic Development Bureau, Trade and Industry
Department, Leisure and Cultural Services Department,
Hong Kong Trade Development Council, Hong Kong
Productivity Council, Hong Kong Tourism Board, Hong Kong
Brand Development Council, The Chinese General Chamber
of Commerce, Federation of Hong Kong Industries, The

Grand Opening Ceremony
On 12 December 2009, the opening ceremony of the 44th
HKBPE started off with
a welcoming address by CMA President Mr Paul Yin,
followed by a special kick-off ceremony officiated by
Hon Donald Tsang, Chief Executive of HKSAR; Director of
Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in
HKSAR Mr Peng Qinghua; Deputy Commissioner of the
Chinese Commissioner's Office of Ministry of Foreign

A Constellation of Brands
The theme of the 44th HKBPE was "Quality Brands, Quality
Life". There were 780 booths located in "Hong Kong
Brands Square", "Food & Beverages Zone", "Grocery &
Noodles Zone", "Ginseng, Dried Seafood & Soup Packs
Zone", "Beauty & Healthcare Zone", "Fashion & Stylish
Products Zone", "Living & Household Zone", "Children's
Corner" and "Food Plaza" of the Expo.
"Hong Kong Brands Square" was one of the focal points of
the Expo. As suggested by its name, the square showcased
famous local brands in 200 booths, which included
Goodway, Lee Kum Kee, German Pool, Safewell, Tung Chun,
Hop Hing, Lam Soon, Sun Shun Fuk, Apollo, Prologic, Tung
Fong Hung, Wai Yuen Tong, Royal Medic, China Paint,
Garden, Kampery, Wing Wah, Amoy, Sea Horse, Tsit Wing,
Tien Chu, Sinomax, Imperial Bird's Nest, Nam Pei Hang,
Home of Swallows, Po Sum On, Long Far, Chicks, Hang
Heung, A-Fontane, Herbs Generation, Tao Heung, etc.
Highlighting the fusion of Eastern and Western cuisines,
"Food Plaza" was established again with overwhelming
response received. The Plaza showcased a wide variety of
delicacies offered by King Bakery, Super Star, Farm
House, One Restaurant, Chan Kee, Koon Thai Hai Nam
Chicken, Baby Satay, A Style, etc.
Visitors were fascinated by a kaleidoscope of quality
products at bargain prices at the venue, including
famous overseas and Mainland brands like Zwilling J.A.
Henckels, Sanyo, Pearl River Bridge, Brand's, Comvita,
Koi Kei Bakery, Cou-Su, Old Town, Satay King, Tiger
Balm, Toshiba, Kingkoil, Seven Seas, etc.
'Connect to Hong Kong at Shanghai Expo' Exhibition
Zone
To encourage the public to support the World Expo
Shanghai 2010 and Hong Kong's participation in the Expo,
the CMA set up a 'Connect to Hong Kong at Shanghai Expo'
Exhibition Zone at the centre of the HKBPE venue.
Visitors could make wishes to the World Expo Shanghai
and Hong Kong's participation in the event through
participating in the activities of the 'HKBPE: Best
Wishes to Expo 2010 Shanghai China' focal point and the
'Connect to Hong Kong at Shanghai Expo' game zone. The
CMA also established a fund at the amount of HK$250,000
to subsidize underprivileged groups in Hong Kong to
visit the World Expo Shanghai to widen their horizons.
Meanwhile, the CMA will organize an exhibition under the
theme of 'Creativity of Hong Kong Industry' at the Hong
Kong Pavilion of the World Expo Shanghai in October
2010.
Spectacular Programmes
18 Districts Make Well Wishes for 2010 Programme During
the 24-day Expo, visitors not only could enjoy shopping
of famous brands and products, but also a wide variety
of entertainment programmes. In collaboration with
Commercial Radio Hong Kong, Radio Television Hong Kong,
Metro Radio and TVB Weekly, the CMA staged a series of
concerts and variety shows at the Expo on themes like
branding and quality life.
The grand finale, namely the '18 Districts Make Well
Wishes for 2010' Programme, was organized by the
'Community Affairs Sub-Committee' of CMA Political
Affairs Standing Committee, and was produced by TVB
Weekly on 3 Janurary 2010, aiming to promote harmony and
unity of all the 18 districts in the territory. The
variety show was kicked off by Under Secretary for Home
Affairs Ms Florence Hui; CMA President Dr David Wong;
Legislative Council Representative Dr Lam Tai Fai, Vice
President Mr Jimmy Ng; General Committee Member cum
Convenor of Social Affairs Sub-Committee of Political
Affairs Standing Committee Mr Kwok Chun Wah; and
Executive Committee Member cum Vice Convenor of Social
Affairs Sub-Committee of Political Affairs Standing
Committee Dr Allen Shi. A total of 200 performers from
18 districts, comprising of musicians, dancers, singers,
lion dancers and figure rope skipping players, staged
remarkable performances. Various pop singers including
Ms Kate Tsui, Mr William Chan, Mr Jason Chan, HotCha and
contestants of 'The Voice' performed on the stage
respectively. In addition, Mother Hong Kong Arts Centre
and the Warehouse Teenage Club also staged fabulous
talent shows.
Miss Exhibition Pageant
Miss Exhibition Pageant aims at selecting goodwill
ambassadors to promote Hong Kong industry by
participating in publicity events of the CMA. The eight
contestants of Miss Exhibition Pageant including Ms Chap
Ping of Bai Ling Pharmaceutical Ltd, Ms Yvonne Lo of New
Cynosure Co Ltd, Ms Flora Cheung of ASTC Training Ctr,
Ms Victoria Tsui of Goodway Electrical Enterprise Ltd,
Ms Corrine Cheung of New Age Health Food Co Ltd, Ms
Delia Kam of Pro Logic Int'l Ltd, Ms Gloria Tai of
Safewell Equipment Ltd and Ms Yu Wat of DR Esthetic
Product Research & Production Ctr made their debut at
the media conference held on 1 December 2009. The media
voted Ms Delia Kam "The Media's Most Favoured Miss
Exhibition" on the spot.The contestants vied for several
awards during the 24-day Expo. As a result, the
championship went to Ms Victoria Tsui, who also won "The
Most Charming Award" and was crowned by CMA President Dr
David Wong. The first runner-up and the second runner-up
were Ms Corrine Cheung and Ms Yu Wat respectively, who
were crowned by CMA Vice President cum Chairman of CMA
Exhibition Services Ltd Mr Irons Sze and CMA Vice
President Mr F C Lo.
The judging panel was composed of professionals

The competition received tremendous support from the
sponsors. Crowe Horwath (HK) CPA Ltd was appointed
official honourable auditors. To improve the
contestants' performance, the CMA invited Make Up For
Ever and XENTER as official make up director and hair
styling director respectively, and Ms Dede Chuck and Ms
Shannon Kwan as official trainer and image consultant
respectively. The winners were awarded valuable prizes

Booth Design Competition
Booth Design Competition is one of the traditional
activities of the Expo, which aims at commending the
exhibitors for outstanding booth design. Exhibitors this
year showed great enthusiasm and effort in their booth
decoration. The championship eventually went to Macau
Koi Kei Bakery (H.K.) Ltd. The first runner-up and the
second runner-up were Lee Kum Kee (H.K.) Ltd and Nu
Pharm Ltd respectively. Assistant Executive Director of

Director of Business Consulting of Hong Kong
Productivity Council Mr Edmond Sung; Committee Member of
The Chinese General Chamber of Commerce Ms Lily Chow;

the judges of the competition.
Business Pioneers Programme
To increase the awareness of the younger generation on
Hong Kong's commercial and industrial development, the
'Business Pioneers Programme' was organized with Ming
Pao as co-organizer. Seven complimentary booths were
offered for the selected school teams, with the
objective of cultivating the entrepreneurship spirit of
the younger generation and providing a platform for the
youngsters to promote innovative products. All students
from secondary schools and tertiary institutes were
invited to participate in the Programme. After fierce
competition, Lingnan Hall C Alumni Association, Hong
Kong College, Baptist Lui Ming Choi Secondary School,
HKMLC Queen Maud Secondary School, HKWMA Chu Shek Lun
Secondary School, Sing Yin Secondary School, and Tin
Shui Wai Government Secondary School were selected. Most
of them sold creative lifestyle and household products
at the Expo. To strengthen students' knowledge of
business management, CMA invited four famous
entrepreneurs to meet with them before the Expo,
including Director of Goodway Electrical Enterprise Ltd
Dr Choi Lung Wai; Chairman of Kampery Group Mr Simon
Wong; Director of Pro Logic Int'l Ltd Mr Thomas Leung;
and Vice President of Yeung's Group Inc Mr Stanley Yeung.
Hong Kong Secondary Student Short Film Ad Competition
To provide opportunity for teenagers to show their
creativities, the CMA organized a 'Hong Kong Secondary
Student Short Film Ad Competition' jointly with CMA
Youth Committee and Sing Tao Magazine Group. The
competition invited students from local secondary
schools to join. A total of 87 student teams
participated in the competition to produce creative
video ads for 12 sponsors. Finally, 22 entry ads were
chosen, in which Lok Sin Tong Wong Chung Ming Secondary
School won the "Best Short Film Award" by producing
video ads for Imperial Bird's Nest Int'l Ltd . All entry
ads were displayed at the venue of HKBPE.
Children's Drawing Competition
To enhance children's understanding of HKBPE, the
Children's Drawing Competition was organized with Ming
Pao as co-organizer. Children under the age of 12 were
eligible to join the competition with the theme "Happy
Expo". The competition received enthusiastic response
from the public with up to 700 high standard entries.
The competition was divided into two sections: Junior
Section and Senior Section. Lau Ho Yeung, Lau Yuen San
and Lee Cheuk Wing were the champion, the first
runner-up and the second runner-up of the Junior Section
respectively; while Pang Ho Kiu, Wong Ho Chong and Au
Tsz Shing were the champion, the first runner-up and the
second runner-up of the Senior Section respectively.
Each section offered 3 top prizes and 5 merit prizes.
The champion and the runners-up of both categories were
each awarded a trophy, a cash prize of HK$1,000, HK$500
and HK$300 and a two-month art course. Merit prize
winners were each awarded a certificate and a one-month
art course.
The judging panel for the competition consisted of CMA

Council Mr Jason Cheung; Art Executive (Special Edition)

Photo Contest
The Association organized a Photo Contest of the 44th
HKBPE with the theme "Quality Life, Better Future".
Through capturing the wonderful moments of HKBPE, the
contest aims at encouraging people to show their
interpretations of "quality life" and their aspirations
for Hong Kong's future. The contest was co-organized by
Ta Kung Pao, Photo Magazine, the Photographic Society of
Hong Kong and the Chinese Photographic Society of Hong
Kong and was sponsored by the Better Hong Kong
Foundation. The response to the Contest was overwhelming
with over 400 entries. The championship went to Mr Hon
Kwok Ching, the fist runner-up and the second runner-up
were Mr Leung Hung Cheung and Mr Chan Cheuk Kwok
respectively.
The contest offered 3 top prizes and 5 merit prizes. The
champion, the first runner-up and the second runner-up
were each awarded a trophy, a cash prize of HK$5,000,
HK$4,000 and HK$3,000 respectively. Each merit prize
winner was awarded a certificate and a cash prize of
HK$1,000. The judging panel was formed by CMA General
Committee Members Mr Fung Yuen Hon and Dr Tony Tai;
