A Constellation of Hong Kong Brands

Organized by the CMA, the 42nd Hong Kong Brands and Products Expo (HKBPE) was held between 8 December 2007 and 1 January 2008 at Victoria Park, showcasing a wide spectrum of traditional and newly emerged brands in 720 booths. The 42nd HKBPE aimed at increasing the standards and awareness of the local industrial products, and further promoting Hong Kong's industrial development. The 25-day Expo this year achieved a huge success with a record attendance of 1.93 million visitors.

The Expo received enthusiastic support from the Commerce and Economic Development Bureau, Trade and Industry Department, and Leisure and Cultural Services Department of HKSAR Government, Hong Kong Tourism Board, Hong Kong Productivity Council, Hong Kong Trade Development Council, Hong Kong Arts Development Council, Hong Kong Brand Development Council, The Chinese General Chamber of Commerce, The Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce, Federation of Hong Kong Industries, The Hong Kong Chinese Enterprises Association, Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute and Industrial Association of Macau. The Association expressed sincere gratitude to 3D-GOLD Jewellery, DR Esthetic Product Research & Production Centre, Safewell Equipment Ltd and Royal Medic (Holdings) Ltd for being the Diamond, Gold, Silver and Bronze sponsors of the Expo respectively.

Grand Opening Ceremony

A Constellation of Brands

The theme of the 42nd HKBPE was "A Constellation of Hong Kong Brands". There were 720 booths in the Expo, located in "Hong Kong Brands Square", "Food & Beverages Zone", "Organic & Health Food Zone", "Grocery & Noodles Zone", "Ginseng, Dried Seafood & Soup Packs Zone", "Beauty & Healthcare Zone", "Fashion & Stylish Products Zone", "Living & Household Zone", "Books & Children's Corner" and "Food Plaza".

"Hong Kong Brands Square" was one of the focal points of the Expo. As suggested by its name, the pavilion showcased famous local brands in 200 booths, which included 3D-GOLD, Goodway, Hop Hing, Lee Kum Kee, Lam Soon, German Pool, Crocodile, Sun Shun Fuk, Apollo, Garden, Kampery, Amoy, Tien Chu, Long Far, Tung Fong Hung, Han Sheng Tang, Sinomax, Herbs Generation, Imperial Bird's Nest, Home of Swallows, First Edible Nest, Chicks, A-Fontane, Haier etc.
Highlighting the fusion of Eastern and Western cuisines, "Food Plaza" was established again with overwhelming response received. The Plaza showcased a wide variety of delicacies offered by Super Star, Satay King, Farm House, Ho Ho Congee & Noodle, King Bakery, QQ Rice, Chinesegogo etc. Visitors were fascinated by a kaleidoscope of quality products at bargain prices at the venue, including famous local and overseas brands like Edo Pack, Sze Hing Loong, Arome Bakery, Koon Yick, Pearl River Bridge, Tao Ti, Nam Pei Hong, Hip Shing Hong, Two Girls, Po Sum On, Modern Beauty Salon, Leaveland, Laosmiddle, Isaworkshop, Brands, Rasonic, Japan-Sanyo, Zwilling J.A.Henckels, Zerba, Vidaylin etc.

HKBPE Organic Lifestyle Home

In recent years, people have become more conscious of "organic living". Riding on this new trend and with the staunch support of Hong Kong Organic Resource Centre, a thematic pavilion entitled "HKBPE Organic Lifestyle Home" was set up this year. Through an array of activities including product displays, organic cooking and farming, and products demonstrations etc, visitors would gain a better understanding of the extensive "organic" applications in our daily lives and of healthy living and environmental protection.


Spectacular Programmes Countdown Programmes

During the 25-day Expo, visitors not only could enjoy shopping of famous brands and products, but also a wide variety of entertainment programmes. The CMA had lined up with Radio Television Hong Kong, Commercial Radio Hong Kong and Eastern District Arts Council to stage a series of concerts and variety shows at the Expo on themes like HKBPE features, environmental protection as well as healthy eating. Furthermore, large-scale Christmas and New Year countdown programmes featuring Canton-pop singers were performed to give the public greater enjoyment and excitement. During the Expo, concerts, prize-winning games, magic and acrobatic shows, musical and dancing performances were also organized to tie in with the 15 thematic days.

Polling Activities and Lucky Draws There were several polling activities in the Expo, including polling for Miss Exhibition Pageant, Hong Kong Top Brand Awards, Hong Kong Service Top Brand Awards and Booth Design Competition. Apart from these, visitors could participate in the Expo Treasure Hunt-Go Goal Gold to win fabulous prizes.

Miss Exhibition Pageant

Miss Exhibition Pageant aims at selecting goodwill ambassadors to promote Hong Kong industry by participating in publicity events of the CMA. The 10 contestants of Miss Exhibition Pageant including Ms Sindy Wu of Beauty & Health Magic Water Purify Ltd, Ms Mandy Ho of Biogem Science Technology Ltd, Ms Ding Leung of New Cynosure Co Ltd, Ms Miki Ho of DR Esthetic Product Research & Production Centre, Ms Miu Lau of Perfect Shape, Ms Kathy Wong of Lai's Medicine, Ms Eagle Lo of Catalo Natural Health Foods, Ms Yandy Tse of Safewell Equipment Ltd, Ms Samantha Kwan of New Age Health Food Co Ltd, and Ms Tasha Chong of Goodway Electrical Enterprise Ltd made their debut at the media conference held on 27 November 2007. The media voted Ms Miki Ho "The Media's Most Favoured Miss Exhibition" on the spot. The 10 contestants vied for several awards during the 25-day Expo. At last, the championship went to Ms Tasha Chong, who also won "The Best Talented Award", "The Best Presentation Award" and "The Most Popular Miss Exhibition On-line Award". She was crowned by CMA Vice-President Mr F C Lo. The first runner-up was Ms Yandy Tse, who was crowned by CMA Vice-President cum Chairman of CMA Exhibition Services Ltd Mr Irons Sze. The second runner-up was Ms Samantha Kwan, who was crowned by CMA Vice-President cum Vice-Chairman of CMA Exhibition Services Ltd Dr Danny Ngai.

The judging panel was comprised of professionals including Founder and Chief Designer of Amelia Wedding Ms Goretti Cheung, Fashion Director of South China Media Ms Denise Szeto, Founder of Joy Luck Boutique (HK) Ms Icey Lam, President of the Association of Image Consultants International (HK Chapter) Ms Lan Ting, Managing Director of Realchamp Asset Management Ltd Ms Scarlett Pong, Chairperson of Hong Kong Institute of Marketing Mr K M Yim, CMA President Mr Peter Hung, Chairman of CMA Exhibition Services Ltd Dr Lui Ming Wah and CMA General Committee Member Mr Ho Yuk Wing.

The competition received tremendous support from the sponsors. CCIF CPA Ltd was appointed official honourable auditors, while Amelia Wedding sponsored cocktail dresses; Joy Luck Boutique sponsored cheong-sams; and Woops Workshop sponsored uniforms, causal wear and suits. To enhance the contestants' performance, the CMA invited Touch Up Int'l Academy as official trainer, and Ms Maggie Wong of Touch Up Production Ltd as image consultant. Mr Jerry Choi and Mr Tam Yick Wai were appointed photography director and video director respectively.
The champion, the first runner-up and the second runner-up were awarded a cash prize of HK$60,000, HK$50,000 and HK$40,000 respectively. Children Ambassadors Competition









To increase the younger generation's awareness of the Expo, the Association launched the "HKBPE Children's Ambassadors Competition" in HKBPE this year. The competition was divided into two sections: Junior Section and Senior Section. Miss Chong Kung Sum, Miss Winky Cheng and Miss Inkham Imy were the champion, the first runner-up and the second runner-up of the Junior Section; while Miss Cherry Ho, Miss Kristy Ng and Mr Ernest Tang were the champion, the first runner-up and the second runner-up of the Senior Section respectively. Every winner was awarded a trophy or a certificate, a performance art course, a trial singing contract and a Tom Lee Music voucher.
The judging panel was consisted of famous artiste Ms Jacqueline Chong, fashion model Ms Irene Wong, Disc Jockey Mr Gary Ngan, Director of Studio-S Ms Suyi Choi, Regional Manager of MediaLink Animation Int'l Ltd Ms Noletta Chiu, Director of Sunny Wong Dance School Mr Sunny Wong, CMA President Mr Peter Hung and General Committee Member Mr Ng Ching Wun. Booth Design Competition



Booth Design Competition is one of the traditional activities of the Expo, which aims at commending the exhibitors for outstanding booth design. Exhibitors this year showed great enthusiasm and effort in their booth decoration. The championship eventually went to 3D-GOLD Int'l Co Ltd. The first runner-up and the second runner-up were Goodway Electrical Enterprise Ltd and German Pool (HK) Ltd respectively.

Children's Drawing Competition











To enhance children's understanding of HKBPE, the Children's Drawing Competition was organized again with Sing Tao Daily as co-organizer. Children under the age of 12 were eligible to join the competition with the theme "A Constellation of Hong Kong Brands". The competition received enthusiastic response from the public with up to 1,000 high standard entries. The competition was divided into two sections: Junior Section and Senior Section. Mr Lo Kai Yin, Miss Fong Ching Lam and Miss Lai Hau Yan were the champion, the first runner-up and the second runner-up of the Junior Section; while Mr Li Shing Kit, Miss Lam Wing Sze and Miss Chan Wai Tung were the champion, the first runner-up and the second runner-up of the Senior Section respectively. Each section offered 3 top prizes and 5 merit prizes. The champion and the runners-up of both categories were each awarded a trophy, a cash prize of HK$1,000, HK$500 and HK$300, a book coupon of HK$500, HK$400 and HK$300 and a gift pack respectively. Merit prize winners were each awarded a certificate, a book coupon of HK$200 and a gift pack respectively. Photo Contest










The Association organized the Photo Contest of the 42nd HKBPE with the theme "Wonderful HKBPE, Better Tomorrow". Through capturing the wonderful moments of HKBPE, the contest aims at increasing people's awareness of Hong Kong brands and Hong Kong's future development, and strengthening their sense of belonging. The contest was co-organized by Ta Kung Pao, Photo Magazine, the Photographic Society of Hong Kong and the Chinese Photographic Society of Hong Kong and was sponsored by the Better Hong Kong Foundation. The response to the Contest was overwhelming with over 600 entries. The championship went to Mr Hon Kwok Ching, the first runner-up and the second runner-up were Ms Cheung Sau Mui and Mr Lung Ka Shun respectively.

The Contest offered 3 top prizes and 5 merit prizes. The champion, the first runner-up and the second runner-up were each awarded a trophy, a cash prize of HK$5,000, HK$4,000 and HK$3,000 respectively. Each merit prize winner was awarded a certificate and a cash prize of HK$1,000. The judging panel was formed by CMA General Committee Member Mr Fung Yuen Hon, Photography Consultant of Ta Kung Pao Mr Lau Pui Hang, Senior Executive Editor of Photo Magazine Mr Dennis Lai, Chairman of the Photographic Society of Hong Kong Dr Leo Wong, Chairman of the Chinese Photographic Association of Hong Kong Mr Ng Lin Shing, Chief Executive of the Better Hong Kong Foundation Ms Karen Tang, and renowned photographer Dr Lawrence Chan and Mr Lun Lam Kwan.
