The Ever-Largest CMA Delegation to Guangzhou
The Association organized a delegation from October 14 to October 16, 1998 to attend the opening ceremony of the "33rd Hong Kong International Industrial Products Exhibition" which was held at the Guangzhou Super Show Centre on October 16, 1998. The delegation also attended the opening ceremony of the 84th Chinese Export Commodities Fair and participated in other related activities.

The 60-member delegation was led by the CMA President Mr Herbert Liang; with Executive Vice-President Mr Leung Nai Wing; Vice-Presidents Mr Yip Hing Chung, Mr Chan Wing Kee, Mr Jose Yu, Dr M.W. Lui, Mr Lin Fai Shat, Mr Lo Man Tuen, Mr Eddie Lu; Assistant to President Mr Lam Hok Po as the deputy leaders. Grand Opening of The 33rd Products Exhibition

On the morning of October 16, 1998, the delegation attended the opening ceremony of the "33rd Hong Kong International Industrial Products Exhibition" which was held at the Gaungzhou Super Show Centre. A number of prominent Chinese official leaders were invited to attend the ceremony. They included Member of the Political Bureau of Communist Party of China, Secretary General of Guangdong Party Committee Mr Li Changchun, Governor of Guangdong Province Mr Lu Ruihua, Chairman of the Political Consultative Conference of Guangdong Province Mr Guo Rongchang, Vice-Minister of the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation, P.R.China Mr Sun Zhenyu, Vice-Director of Xinhua News Agency (Hong Kong Branch) Mr Ulan Mulun, Member of the Standing Committee, Secretary General of Guangdong Provincial Party Committee Mr Cai Dongshi, Vice-Chairman of the Political Consultative Conference of Guangdong Province Mr Peng Yuxian, Mayor of Guangzhou Municipality Mr Lin Shusen, and other senior official leaders.
CMA President Mr Herbert Liang and Chairman of the CCPIT Guangdong Sub-Council Mr Xu Dezhi gave the welcoming remarks at the ceremony, followed by CMA Executive Vice-President & Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Exhibition Mr Leung Nai Wing who made a short speech to thank the support of various organizations. More than 400 people attended the opening ceremony including the guests, press and visitors.

The contestants of the 33rd Miss Exhibition Pageant of the 33rd Exhibition in Guangzhou greeted honorable guest at the opening ceremony. 　

After the opening ceremony, CMA held a luncheon in Oriental Resort. Over 50 guests attended including Chairman of the CCPIT Mr Yu Xiaosong, Vice-Director of Xinhua News Agency (Hong Kong Branch) Mr Ulan Mulun, Deputy Head of Economic Affairs Department of Xinhua News Agency (Hong Kong Branch) Mr Wang Liaoping, Chairman of the CCPIT Guangdong Sub-Council Mr Xu Dezhi, Vice-Chairman of the CCPIT Guangdong Sub-Council Mr Tang Zhuotian, Mr Chen Yaohuan, Chairman of the Guangdong General Chamber of Commerce Mr Xie Taijian, Chairman of the CCPIT Guangzhou Sub-Council Mr Wu Binghui, Chief Representative of the CCPIT Hong Kong Office Mr Xu Dayou, Deputy Director of the Commission of Foreign Economic Relations & Trade of Guangdong Province Mr Liao Guoji, Director of the Commission of Foreign Economic Relations & Trade of Guangzhou Municipality Mr Tan Kecheng, Deputy Director of the Commission of Foreign Economic Relations & Trade of Guangzhou Municipality Mr Liu Dongsheng, Deputy Director of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council Mr Dennis Yau & other representatives. The three-day trip was successfully concluded and the delegation returned to Hong Kong after the luncheon.

A Wide Variety of Products on Display at The "33rd Hong Kong International Industrial Products Exhibition"

The "33rd Hong Kong International Industrial Products Exhibition" was held at the Guangzhou Super Show Centre from October 16 to October 22, 1998. The exhibition provided approximately 300 booths with a broad exhibit profile including textile, clothing, health goods, jewelry, beauty products, household products, furniture, electrical appliances, plastic goods, toys, electronic products, basic fabricated metal products, etc. A range of programmes including wedding gown shows, singing performance, lucky draw, photo exhibition and the well-known "Miss Exhibition Pageant" were staged during the seven-day exhibition.

The Traditional "Miss Exhibition Pageant"

The prize presentation together with the final contest of the "Miss Exhibition Pageant" were held on October 22, 1998. Judges included Deputy Director of Guangdong Cultural Bureau Ms Chen Zhongqiu, Chairman of Guangdong Dancer Society Ms Chen Qiao, and Deputy Secretary General of the Enterprise Cultural Society of Guangdong Province Mr Sun Guoyu put their heads together to select the champion, 1st runner-up and 2nd runner-up. CMA also invited Ms May Fung Yick-mei, the 2nd runner-up of the 10th Miss Exhibition Pageant in 1952, to participate in the coronation of the winners. CMA Vice-President, Vice-Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the 33rd Hong Kong International Industrial Products Exhibition, Mr Lo Man Tuen addressed at the prize presentation ceremony. Prizes were given by CMA Vice-Presidents Mr Lin Fai Shat, Mr Lo Man Tuen, and Mr Eddie Lu. The champion was Miss Cindy Wang of Wing Tai Garment International Ltd, the 1st runner-up was Miss Lucy Liu of Orient Forest Ltd and the 2nd runner-up was Miss Rebecca Liu of Dong-Jun (Holdings) Ltd. The winners received prizes with a total value of HK$80,000, HK$50,000 and HK$30,000 respectively. Other officiating guests included CMA General Committee Member Mr Francis Cheng, Mr Johnny Li, Mr Chao King Lin, Mr Eddy Li and Mr Chui Siu Chuen.
