  2012 Exhibition (The 47th Hong Kong Brands and Products Expo)
 


Organized by the CMA, the 47th Hong Kong Brands and Products Expo(HKBPE) was held between 15 December 2012 and 7 January 2013 atVictoria Park, showcasing a wide spectrum of traditional and newlyemerged brands. The 47th HKBPE aimed at increasing the standardsand awareness of the local brands, and further promoting Hong Kong’s industrial and commercial development. The total sales turnover of the 24-day Expo this year increased 16% from HK$600 million last year to HK$700 million, making a new record.

Grand Opening Ceremony

The theme of the 47th HKBPE was “Famous Brands, Quality Products”. There were more than 880 booths located in “Hong Kong Brands Square”, “Food & Beverages Zone”, “Grocery & Noodles Zone”, “Ginseng, Dried Seafood & Soup Packs Zone”, “Beauty & Healthcare Zone”, “Fashion & Stylish Products Zone”, “Living & Household Zone”, “Children Products Zone”, “Food Plaza”, “Social Enterprises Zone”, “Promotion Zone” and “Trade Zone” of the Expo.

A Constellation of Brands
“Hong Kong Brands Square” was one of the focal points of the Expo. As suggested by its name, the Square showcased famous local brands in more than 200 booths, which included
Goodway, Lee Kum Kee, Tung Chun, German Pool, Sau Tao, Tung Fong Hung, Royal Medic, Nam Pei Hong, Beijing Tongrentang, Comvita, etc.

Highlighting the fusion of Eastern and Western cuisines, “Food Plaza” was established again with overwhelming response received. The Plaza showcased a wide variety of delicacies offered by King Bakery, Super Star, A Style, Farm House, Desert F&B, Olala Restaurant, Omerice and Treasure Lake Catering, etc. Visitors were fascinated by a wide variety of quality products at bargain prices at the venue, including famous overseas and Mainland brands like Royal Furniture, Meyer, San’Dy, Zwilling J.A.Henckels, Nu Pharm, Ori-Princess, Paula, Meiriki - Japan, Tak Hung Hong, Catalo, Zihua, NutriGreen, etc.

For the first time of the Expo, the Hong Kong and China Gas Co Ltd set up a specially designed pavilion in the 47th HKBPE to showcase the evolution of the company over the past 150 years with Hong Kong society. Through a number of exhibits including replicas of old gas lamps, gas cookers and water heaters, the public could gain a better understanding of the remarkable achievements of the company.

A theme song was specially produced for the HKBPE this year. The theme song was composed by Ms Cleo Ko and the lyrics were written by Ms Mona Leung of  Jackpopmusic, with the hope of spreading the message of the HKBPE.

Storage Service Newly Launched
To enable visitors to have a more enjoyable shopping experience at the Expo, the CMA had launched some new measures this year. To cater for the needs of visitors for temporary storage of their shopping goods, the CMA provided a storage service for the first time this year.

Moreover, to attract more Mainland visitors to the Expo, the CMA had widely advertised the Expo in Mainland China and had co-operated again with Trans- Island Limousine to provide cross-border bus service for individual visitors from Shenzhen Bay Port to the Expo daily during the Expo period. Meanwhile, the CMA had lined up with various media partners in Mainland China to organize tour groups from Mainland China to Hong Kong for shopping in the Expo.

To facilitate information search of the Expo, while continuing to provide an Expo app for iPhone users, smart phone users of the Android system could also download the app by searching the keyword “工展會”, enabling them to download and browse the latest information of the 47th HKBPE anytime and anywhere.

Caring for the Community Programme
To express our care and concern to the underprivileged and to fulfill our corporate social responsibility, the CMA continued to launch the “Caring for the Community Programme”. The CMA had put more resources into the programme this year, spending HK$3.1 million to support nearly 7,700 lowincome families and underprivileged people. Under this programme, 4,800 families were granted free admissions to the 47th HKBPE in addition to a subsidy of HK$500 for each family to purchase any products in the Expo. To expand the scope of the programme, the newly launched special programme “Love Gift” had successfully delivered 2,000 gift packs to the underprivileged who were living in homes for the elderly and receiving
residential childcare service, and were not able to attend the HKBPE. Furthermore, the ‘Children Development Matching Fund’ and the ‘HKBPE Family Fun Fair’ were added to this year’s programme, providing cash allowances or shopping subsidies for approximately 1,000 qualified children and teenagers.

Besides, with the help of the Home Affairs Department and the Social Affairs Department, 10 free booths were offered to different social enterprises for them to showcase their products and to expand their business.

Spectacular Programmes
The CMA had also lined up with Radio Television Hong Kong and Metro Radio to stage a series of mini concerts and variety shows for the enjoyment of the visitors.

Miss Exhibition Pageant
Miss Exhibition Pageant aims at selecting goodwill ambassadors to promote Hong Kong industry by participating in publicity events of the CMA. The 9 contestants of Miss Exhibition Pageant including Ms Kammy Kong of Wo Hing Loong Food Co Ltd; Ms Kathy Sau of Concord Alliance Ltd; Ms Chloe Shiu of Pro Logic Int’l Ltd; Ms Peggy Wong of SWF Int’l Trading Co Ltd; Ms Zoe So of New Cynosure Co Ltd; Ms Rainbow Cheng of Goodway Electrical Enterprise Ltd; Ms Miki Ng of Wah Fat Hong (HK) Trading Development Co Ltd; Ms Zhang Xu of The Hong Kong & China Gas Co Ltd; and Ms Carrie Law of Safewell Equipment Ltd made their debut at a media conference h e l d o n 5 D e c e m b e r 2 0 1 2. .T h e participants voted Ms Kammy Kong "The Most Eye-catching Award" on the spot.

The contestants vied for several awards during the 24-day Expo. After fierce competition, the championship went to Ms Rainbow Cheng. The first runner-up was Ms Zhang Xu, who also
won “The Most Charming Award”, “The Best Eloquence Award” and “The Most Talent Award”. The second runner-up and the winner of “The Most Eye-catching Award” was Ms Kammy Kong. Cash prizes worth HK$350,000 were awarded to the champion, first runner-up, second runnerup and the companies represented by the winners. The total value of the prizes in cash and in kind amounted to HK$700,000.

T h e c o m p e t i t i o n r e c e i v e d tremendous support from the sponsors. Crowe Horwath (HK) CPA Ltd was appointed official honourable auditor. To improve the contestants’ performance, the CMA invited Director of iCreate Makeup Workshop Ms Peggy Cheng and Mr Brian Ho as official make up director and hair styling director respectively, and Director of Art Beauty.Com Ms Peony Lau as official trainer and image consultant. Besides, Pola Cosmetics (HK) Co Ltd provided skin care training and AF Elegance sponsored contestants’ evening dresses.

Booth Design Competition
Booth Design Competition is one of the traditional activities of the Expo, which aims at commending the exhibitors for outstanding booth design. Exhibitors this year showed great enthusiasm and effort in their booth decoration. The championship eventually went to the Hong Kong & China Gas Co Ltd. The first runner-up was Tung Chun Soy Sauce & Canned Food Co Ltd while the second runner-up and the winner of the “Green Booth Design Award” was Royale Furniture Holdings Ltd. Chairman of School of Design Alumni Association Mr Samuel Yau; Secretary G e n e r a l o f M o d e o f D e s i g n A l l i a n c e M r Sin Tze Kong; E x e c u t i v e Commi t t e e M e m b e r o f H o n g Kong D e s i g n e r s Association Mr Dennis Wong a n d D e s i g n Manager o f H o n g K o n g Design Centre Mr Sidney Lee were invited to be the judges of the competition.



2012 HKBPE Children Ambassadors Competition
Following the success of the 42nd and 43rd HKBPE, the CMA held the HKBPE Children Ambassadors Competition again this year to provide a platform for children to develop and show their talent.

The competition was divided into two sections: Junior Section and Senior
Section. Celine Tam, Jacqueline Chan and Lam Lok Yin were the champion, the first runner-up and the second runner-up of the Junior Section respectively; while Yuna Watanabe, Yau Tsz Yung and Chan Nok Yau were the champion, the first runnerup and the second runner-up of the Senior Section respectively. The champion and the runners-up of both sections were each awarded a trophy and book coupons worth HK$1,000, HK$800 and HK$500 respectively. Merit prize winners were each awarded book coupons worth HK$200.

Hong Kong Secondary Student Short Film Ad Competition
To provide a platform for teenagers to show their creativity, CMA Youth Committee organized the “Hong Kong Secondary Student Short Film Ad Competition” again this year. A total of 140 creative advertisements produced for 9 sponsors were received from local secondary school students. Finally, 27 entries were chosen, in which Po Leung Kuk 1984 College won “The Best Short Film Award”. A prize presentation ceremony was held on 22 December 2012 and all entry advertisements were shown at the HKBPE.

Children’s Drawing Competition
To enhance children’s understanding of HKBPE, the Children’s Drawing Competition was organized with Ming Pao as a co-organizer and Luk Ka Int’l Ltd, Wah Hing Office Supplies Group Ltd and Moon’s Gallery as sponsors. Children aged 12 or below were invited to join the competition with the theme “Joyful & Colourful HKBPE”. The competition received enthusiastic response from the public with more than 400 high standard entries. The competition was divided into two sections: Junior Section and Senior Section. Leung Nicholas, Jayden Kwok and Choy Wing Tung were the champion, the first runner-up and the second runner-up of the Junior Section respectively; while Fong Ruby Ching Laam, Sek Hei Tung and Chan Yu Ling were the champion, the first runner-up and the second runnerup of the Senior Section respectively. The champion and the runners-up of both categories were each awarded a trophy, a cash prize of HK$1,000, HK$500 and HK$300, and a three-month art course. Merit prize winners were each awarded a certificate and a one-month art course.

Photo Contest
The Association organized a Photo Contest in the 47th HKBPE with the theme “Famous Brands, Quality Products”. Through capturing the wonderful moments of HKBPE, the Contest aimed at encouraging people to show their interpretations of “Famous Brands, Quality Products” and their aspirations for Hong Kong’s future. This year’s contest was co-organized by Ta Kung Pao, Photo Magazine, the Photographic Society of Hong Kong and the Chinese Photographic Society of Hong Kong and was sponsored by the Better Hong Kong Foundation. The response to the Contest was overwhelming with 400 entries. The championship went to Yip Wai Kit; the first runner-up and the second runner-up were Cheung Wai Kuen and Au Chin Ki respectively. The champion, the first runner-up and the second runner-up were each awarded a trophy, a cash prize of HK$5,000, HK$3,000 and HK$2,000 respectively. Each merit prize winner was awarded a certificate and a cash prize of HK$1,000. The judging panel was formed by CMA Honorary President Mr Fung Yuen Hon; Chief Executive of the Better Hong Kong Foundation Ms Karen Tang; Ta Kung Pao Chief Photographer Mr Cheng Lui; Executive Editor of Photo Magazine Mr Ben Keung; Chairman of the Photographic Society of Hong Kong Mr Yam Sik; Permanent Honorary Chairman of the Chinese Photographic Association of Hong Kong Mr Ng Lin Shing; and renowned photographer Mr Lun Lam Kwan.
