4. Miss Exhibition Pageant
As one of the traditional programme highlights
of the Expo, Miss Exhibition Pageant was staged
again to revive visitors' memories of the splendid
history of previous exhibitions. It aims to select
goodwill ambassadors to help promote Hong Kong's
industry by participation in publicity activities
organized by the CMA.
On
November 15, 2000, a press conference was held to
introduce the ten contestants to the public. They
were Ms Grace Leung of d'Oro Puff-Pastry &
Cookies Expertise Shop, Ms Coco Wong of Il Hwa
Hong Kong Ltd., Ms Lily Yeung of Sun Shun Fuk
Foods Co. Ltd., Ms Bibi Leung of Anton
International (Asia) Ltd., Ms Zen Ho of DR
Esthetic Product Research & Production Centre,
Ms Nancy Lok of Siu Sin Tso Taiwan Food Wholesale
Co., Ms Phyllis Wong of Chevalier Group, Ms Helen
Tin of Universe Holdings Ltd., Ms Nicole Ho of
Long Far Herbal Medicine Mfg. (HK) Ltd., and Ms
Simy Cheung of Goodway Electrical Enterprise
Ltd.
To
enhance the contestants' performance, CMA invited
celebrities including Ms Lam Kin Ming, Michelle,
Mr Wong Kwai Lam, Mr Vincent Pang, Ms Abbie Chan,
Mr Addy Ng, Ms Lucy Shih, Mr Lawrence Chan, Mr
Warden Luk and Ms Strisan Chan as official
training and image consultants to give lectures on
eloquence, poise and posture, catwalk, fitness,
image design, photography, hair styling and
make-up.
To
initiate a poll for the Miss Exhibition Pageant, a
display panel showing the contestants' photos and
numbers was set up at the venue. Promotion
leaflets were also distributed to every visitor.
Visitors were keen on voting for their ideal Miss
Exhibition. Many of them even took photos with the
contestants and asked for their
autographs.
At the press
conference on January 4, 2001, judges of the
Pageant met with the media and expressed their
views on the contestants. The judging panel was
formed by Associate Director-General of Invest
Hong Kong for the HKSAR Government Mr Wan Chung
On, Legislative Council Member Dr Lui Ming Wah,
Chairman of The Chinese General Chamber of
Commerce Dr Robin Chan, famous fashion designer Ms
Flora Cheong-Leen, and famous actress Ms Christine
Ng.
