Enthusiastic Response from the Public
The HKPE received enthusiastic response
from the public. The number of entry to the 23-day
exhibition was over 850,000 and a crowding scene was
common on holidays. To enhance the bustling atmosphere
at the Expo venue, the Association organised a wide
range of programmes for visitors to bring them back the
festive ambience of the previous Expos while enjoying
the pleasure of shopping.
Technology Zone
To
respond to the promotion of innovation and technology
advocated by HKSAR Chief Executive Mr Tung Chee Hwa to
improve Hong Kong's economy, the scale of the
"Technology Zone" was enlarged to an individual pavilion
with about 90 booths at the Expo. The Technology
Pavilion consisted of exhibitors of technological
research organizations and enterprises. The major
exhibitors included Information Technology and
Broadcasting Bureau, Information Technology Services
Department, Hong Kong Productivity Council, Legend
Holdings Ltd., Pacific Century Group which actively
engaged in "Cyberport" project and Beijing's "Zhong Guan
Cun".
Macau Pavilion
"Macau Pavilion" was also enlarged to an
individual hall so as to accommodate more exhibitors
from Macau. Through displaying a great variety of
Macau's home products and many valuable photos
introducing Macau's scenic spots and the course of
Macau's return to China, visitors were able to have a
better understanding of Macau.
