At the
press conference on December 21, 1999, all judges of
the Pageant met with the media and expressed views on
the contestants. The judging panel was formed by Deputy
Director-General of Trade Mr Edward Yau, Legislative
Council Member The Hon Ma Fung Kwok, Chairman of the
Management Board of The Small and Medium Enterprises
Association of Macau Mr Stanley Au, Vice President of
Programming Services of Cable TV Ms
May Fung, and famous actress Ms Kathy Chau. To enhance
the contestants' performance, CMA invited celebrities
including Ms Eunice Lam, Ms Leung San, Mr Terrance Wong,
Mr Lawrence Chan and Mr Addy Ng to conduct a series
of lectures on poise and posture, stage performance,
techniques, eloquence, photography and image design.
The first round of the Pageant was held from December
11 to 24, 1999, during which visitors voted for their
ideal Miss Exhibition according to the contestants'
manner, communication skills, appearance and knowledge
of their companies' business and products as well as
Hong Kong's industry. The final contest of the Pageant
was held on December 24, 1999 at night at Tamar
Site.
During the final contest, the contestants dressed up
in different costumes including evening gowns, suits,
self-selected clothes, clothing designed by famous local
designer and cheong-sams to answer different kinds of
questions ranging from tests on their selling skills
to common questions about Hong Kong. "The Most Cooperative
Award" was announced right after the first session.
The award went to Ms Vickie Wong and CMA Vice-President
Dr Jose Yu presented the prize to her. With
reference to the following four criteria, i. manner
and appearance, ii. communication skills, iii. understanding
of their companies' business and products, and iv. voting
results, the judging panel determined the positions
of contestants. After a brief discussion among the panel
members, Mr Edward Yau summarized the opinions of all
other members and reached a final result. The climax
ofthe
evening was the moment to announce and crown the title-winners.
The championship went to Ms Catherine Yuen who was crowned
by CMA President Mr Chan Wing Kee. The first runner-up
was Ms Zhu Li Jun who was crowned by Vice-President
Mr Herbert Liang. Ms Aries Li, the second runner-up,
was crowned by Vice-President Mr Lo Man Tuen. "The Best
Eloquence Award" went to Ms Josephine Wu and Vice-President
Mr Yip Hing Chung presented the
prize to her. The title-winners will play the role of
goodwill ambassadors to assist CMA in promoting Hong
Kong industry in the following year. |
