Co-organized by Ta Kung Pao and the Photographic Society of Hong Kong and solely sponsored by the Stereo Ltd, the Contest was divided into Student Category and Open Category. The judging panel, formed by CMA General Committee Member and Chairman of the Publicity Committee of the Expo Mr Fung Yuen Hon, renowned photographers Mr Kan Hing Fok, Mr Ng Lin Sing, Dr Leo K.K. Wong, Editor of the photography page of Ta Kung Pao Mr Lau Pui Hang and Chairman of the Photographic Society of Hong Kong Mr Yam Sik, finally selected the winners of the two categories.

The champion, first runner-up and second runner-up of the Open Category each received a trophy, a cash prize of HK$5,000, HK$3,000 and HK$1,000 and a video-camera, a camera and a telescope respectively. Each merit prize winner was awarded a certificate, a cash prize of HK$500 and a sticker camera. For the Student Category, each of the champion and the runners-up was awarded a trophy, a cash prize of HK$3,000, HK$2,000 and HK$1,000, and a video-camera, a camera and a telescope respectively. Merit prize winners were each awarded a certificate, a cash prize of HK$500 and a sticker camera.

10. Children's Drawing Competition
The children's drawing competition was organized to enhance public understanding of the 35th HKPE and local manufacturing industries. Children under the age of 12 are eligible to join the competition with the theme "The HKPE in My View".

The competition was co-organized by Sing Tao Daily, with continuous support of Luk Ka International Limited as the sponsor of the competition and other printed materials of the HKPE. Sino United Publishing (Holdings) Limited also supported the competition by providing book coupons to winners. The competition was divided into two categories: Junior Category (age 8 and below) and Senior Category (age 8 to 12). Held from December 23, 2000 to January 1, 2001 amid the Christmas and New Year's holidays, the competition received an overwhelming response from the public and the works submitted were of high standards.
