1. Miss Exhibition Pageant As one of the traditional programme highlights of the Expo, Miss Exhibition Pageant aims to select goodwill ambassadors to help promote Hong Kong's industry by participation in publicity activities organized by the CMA. A press conference was held on November 13, 2001 to introduce the eight contestants to the public. They were Ms Yolanda Chung of DR Esthetic Product Research & Production Centre, Ms Elke So of Long Far Herbal Medicine Mfg. (HK) Ltd., Ms Helen Lau of DXN International (HK) Ltd., Ms Nancy Wong of Sunray Cave Ltd., Ms City Lee of Kun Van Kau Food Co., Ms Pearl Lo of Goodway Electrical Enterprise Ltd., Ms Gloria Ngai of German Tops and Ms Cherry Lau of Effective Ind. Co. Ltd. The winners of the Miss Exhibition Pageant were selected according to their manner, communication skills, appearance and knowledge about their companies' business and products as well as Hong Kong's industry. The judging panel of Miss Exhibition Pageant was formed by Legislative Council Member Dr the Honourable Lui Ming Wah, Director of Wen Wei Po Mr Zhang Guoliang, famous actress Ms Maraine Chan, famous model Ms Eunis Chan and Editorial Director of Marie Claire Magazine Ms Olivia Wong. To enhance the contestants' performance, CMA invited celebrities including Ms Lam Kin Ming, Ms Kennes Yiu, Mr Warden Luk, I1 Colpo/ Architech Studio (Artistic Team), Ms Janae Chan, Mr Philip Pan as official trainers and image consultants to give lectures on eloquence, poise and catwalk, image design, hair styling, make-up and posturing before camera. On the evening of January 5, 2002, the final contest of the Pageant was the climax of the event. During the final contest, the contestants dressed up in different costumes including cocktail dresses designed by students of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, uniforms, trendy fashion wear and cheong-sams to answer different kinds of questions ranging from tests on their selling skills to general questions about the promotion of Hong Kong's industry. "The Best Cocktail Dress Design Award" went to the winning student Ms Josephine Lo and Editorial Director of Marie Claire Ms Olivia Wong presented the prize to her. Besides, "The Best Eloquence Award", "The Media's Most Favoured Miss Exhibition Award" and "The Most Popular Miss Exhibition On-line Award" went to Ms City Lee, Ms Elke So and Ms Pearl Lo respectively. CMA Honorary President Mr Yip Hing Chung, Vice-President Mr Peter Hung and Managing Director of Goodway Electrical Enterprise Ltd. (a sponsor of the Pageant) Mr Choi Lung Wai presented the respective awards to the winners. With reference to the following four criteria, i. manner and appearance, ii. communication skills, iii. understanding of their companies' business and products, and iv. voting results from public polling, the judging panel selected five contestants, including Ms Elke So, Ms Nancy Wong, Ms City Lee, Ms Pearl Lo and Ms Gloria Ngai, to enter the second round of the competition. They were then required to answer questions on how to promote Hong Kong's industry. Their performances were used to determine their final places. |
