2. Booth Design Competition

The Booth Design Competition was one of the characteristics of the previous Exhibitions. In the past, the exhibitors invested a great deal of efforts in booth design and product display in order to attract more visitors. Likewise, this year the Association had organized the Booth Design Competition to encourage exhibitors to design their booths in a special and attractive way.

We had invited Mr Raymond Young, Director-General of Industry of Hong Kong Government Industry Department, as our Chairman of the Judging Panel. Other Judges included Mr Alexander Tzang, Associate Director (Industrial Development and Corporate Communications) of Hong Kong Polytechnic, Mr Christopher Chow, Assistant Executive Director of Hong Kong Trade Development Council and Ms Y. Y. Tang, Manager (Administration & Development) of Hong Kong Productivity Council.

Ms Jessie Ng, with her glamourous smile, became Miss Exhibition in the eyes of the contestants.
The judges inspected the booths before the opening of the 32nd Exhibition (November 3, 1994) and evaluated with reference to the overall design of the booths, the product display, and the ability to match booth design with product features. Three winners were chosen. The champion was Beijing Tong Ren Tang. Its booth was classic instyle with a traditional Chinese touch that perfectly matched the characteristics of its products - Chinese medicine. The first runner-up was Tung Chun Soy Sauce & Canned Food Co Ltd. All judges agreed that its booth design was simple and vivid in image, and was a typically cost-effective creation with clear-cut theme. The second runner-up was Shell Electric Mfg (Holdings) Co Ltd. Judges opined that the booth had made maximum use of its space in all dimensions so that a great variety of goods can be displayed. 16 Contestants of Miss Exhibition Pageant posed for a photo before the opening of the Exhibition.
